Is this the version that came out from Microprose for the C64, Amiga and then PC? Or is there another open source version I am not aware of?

yes the sim from mircroprose...
I have to admit I never really thought of or look at RSR as a simulation like you would think... I always looked at it as a linear story that ended by winning or loosing..

However I DO still play it on the Amiga because it definitely is and was one of the top games of the era... I also play Megafortress on the Amiga as well as its expansions.... but that game is so dam hard...
