Two miles from the airport . . . almost made it didn't he. Wonder what the aircraft captain has to say about the aircraft. Wonder what the findings of engine failure are. Last crash of a F/A-18 in the area was back in 2005 on Federal Land east of the main runway.

sad.
I have done a bit of flying around the San Diego Area myself. Most of the airports in the region have Pacific ocean on one end of the runway and real estate on the other. You auger one in you have a 50/50 chance of coming down on someone.  I hope to god i never have to put one down in that situation - let alone bail out! It is going to be difficult for that pilot knowing his plane came down on those folks.

4 dead, the lone survivor of the household, who had just moved into the area is praying for the pilot so he doesn't go through the grief he is going through. Pilot apparently was aiming for the nearby Rose Canyon Open space when the engines shut down, but we wont know for sure until the investigation is completed.
