Default Killed in Dover harbor.

I'm still trying to figure out how I got destroyed. It's 2000 hours on Jan 24, 1940. I sneak into the outer harbor where lies 2 fat troop transports and a Chatham class. Quiet as a mouse I sneak in without anyone knowing and line up on the troop transports...I am at periscope depth and "silent running" until just before the double 2's salvos. I unleash the fish and get a kill on one transport and before I can see how well I did on the 2nd transport...I get destroyed. By what? I'm at periscope depth yet I take immense amounts of damage, lose all my diesel fuel and go down like a cheap...well...you know what I mean. I have no idea what happened. I was at a dead stop with 7 meters below the keel so, I didn't run into a pier or anything. Now, I did have the periscope up and I saw searchlights from the transports, and possibly the Chatham, come on after the first 2 torps hit. If they see the 'scope can guns get me at periscope depth? I can't figure any other way I received SO much damage within seconds of my first strikes.

I know I'll get some "what the heck are you doing in Dover harbor?" responses...I'm trying to kill something big, fat and unmoving! :p
