I've had SH3 for a couple years now but had not done any career work. What a mistake this game is awsome! The weather effects alone were worth the purchase price.
I've run into some unpleasant 'things'. On two patrols in a row I came across a lone cargo ship, intercepted and set it up for the kill thanks to the great pictorial tutorial on how to intercept ships and fleets that can be found here, and proceeded to waste 5 torpedoes with only one hit on each patrol. And I was in close. Oddly the best results were obtained when farther away from the target, say 1000+m. After getting a hit on each ship it slowed down so I set up and lay in wait for it to cross directly in front of the sub at 90 degrees. So they were straight shots at the ship from as little as 120m! And the torpedoes missed. Quite disconcerting to do everything well, wound a ship so it is at 0kts, but not be able to sink it because I've used my supply of 5 torpedoes. Also, on both patrols the seas were rough. I tried to use the flak gun to finish them off but got the message seas are too rough for the flak gun. So I was left sitting 100m off the port bow of these cargo ships with no way to sink them. Do the rough seas cause the missed torpedo shots? What is odd is that the torpedoes would pass under the ships and explode some distance on the other side. Freaky. This game is so cool in general. The sounds and realism of the ocean are superb. I keep wondering why my flight sim games can't make the ocean like that. Gibbons |
