I would like a modder’s opinion about this.
The GWX team announced that after their 2.1 update, they will no longer mod SH3 (they have done a fantastic job), and some modders (for example Mikhayl) mentioned the possibility of doing something for SH4. Is the GWX team going to start working (maybe after a long break) on SH4 as well? It would be a logical decision, since IMO what makes or breaks simulations (Silent Hunter, Operation Flashpoint, Falcon 4) is the amount of community support for the sim. It makes sense to support a newer engine, and I’m incredibly grateful for the awesome work of the modders for Silent Hunter III. To give another example, I don’t know how many hours I spent playing Operation Flashpoint thanks to the awesome mods that were made for it, however I’m looking forward to the release of Armed Assault 2 (of course if the developers don’t mess it up, which I don’t think they will) because it will –hopefully- take advantage of newer technology (more cores and more effective use of graphics cards=more details and somewhat smoother gameplay). I will never forget how much fun I had playing OFP, just like I will always remember how much fun I had with SH3 and the mods that were made for it. But now that SH4 has U-boats I’m wondering if we’re seeing the logical migration to SH4. As far as I’m concerned the incredible work of the SH3 modders won’t be forgotten. I wish I was a millionaire in order to give you guys a more solid proof of appreciation. Anyway, I’d like a modder to please tell me point-blank if this is the case, or if I’m reading too much into things. |
