So, which mods to get?

Allow me, if you will, to explain my current situation.

Just got SH4, patched to 1.4.

Looking for mods that:
A. Make the game look better;
B. Simplify some of the insane things - I cannot figure out how to nav from PH to Midway for the life of me, even after the sub school;

C. Make the game more immersive.

Unfortunately, there's so many mods available I'm actually sort of lost.

Suggestions?
