So i'm training with these new (to me) instruments in the excelent OLC mod in GWX 2.0, 100% realism. Oh, 89% realism, i do have contacts on because i'm training. I wanted to get a notion of how accurate these instruments really are. So in the training mission "torpedos" (same as in the OLC video tutorial) i first the tanker sailing at 345 true bearing when you start the mission. Range is about 1800 meters to me but the AOB was greater than 90, since there is no angle scale for angles greater than 90 i assumed the ship was sailing east (note i started heading north and i'm dead in the water at periscope). I thought i hada good solution and i raised periscope once more to check how good was my reading. Not so good, i was 200 meters off. I was a bit worried if i would be able to play 100% realism and after a close observation i realized that ship wasn't going exactly east (not 90º AoB) so my two questions are:
How to find out the Aob in such cases you go "off the scale"? What is the minimum range you'd recommend one can make a solution worthy of the TDC? Thx
