Can't believe what's just happened to me in game. I have to share it.
March 23, 1940, U-52 (VIIB), at the entrance to Ofot Fjord waiting for the prey (i.e. allied shipping fleeing Narvik or allied warhips). Finallt got a contact at about midnight. Soon after saw the ship with the periscope - a fatty medium cargo, going slow/medium. Surfaced, plotted a bit to get the best solution, went much closer to identify the ship - lucky me, a Norwegian one. Prepared two torpedoes as stated in BdU orders: a magnetic under-keel one and an impact just below the water line. Fired. And immediately after - a thought: why is the ship going EAST?! Why no escorts around?! Why... oh why is the flag... GERMAN!!? I have problems reading flags and I should be more careful. But now, what could I do with the 2 torpedoes cutting the waves? Simply nothing. I didn't even try to pray, as I don't remember any of these. Just cursed a lot. And what? The magnetic torpedo prematured half from to the ship. ![]() ![]() That was close. :rotfl:
