I think originally, guided by the suicidal challenge of SH3/GWX, Ducimus sought mostly a more challenging ASW environment. SH4 was such a pushover you could actually get bored if that was a major source of your thrills. Realism didn't creep into his thought processes at all then. After Beery stepped away from RFB, I tried TM in frustration, prepared to hate it. Instead I discovered a whole new world that I enjoyed immensely.
Later, due to the evil influence of tater and oakgroove, Ducimus moved in the direction of campaign and interior realism. Now, a helpless slave to their influence, Ducimus has us being plastered from above by aircraft when we are "safely" at periscope depth. Oh the humanity!:rotfl: The official excuse for Ducimus' perversion (obsessive tweaking disorder) is provided by tater, who poses an existential choice between realism in enemy behavior and realism in player behavior, postulating that realistic player behavior can only derive from unrealistic enemy behavior. I'll buy THAT for a dollar! Pass me another saki! ![]() The result has been a mod that I have not been able to live without, and which has invaded every aspect of Silent Hunter 4. I have not doubt that RFB is destined to do the same and have the same level of irrational support. ![]()
