External view zoom level

Some time ago I read a post referring to zoom levels. I managed to change the zoom levels in the external views (next/previous camera) as in the stock version they do not zoom near enough for me (bad eyesight). Everything was o/k until instal of 1.3 patch, now they are back to normal(stock). Can anyone give me a pointer to this post as I can no longer find it or help in any way , please do not suggest getting new 'binoc' glasses.
