The problem I have with Full Metal Jacket is that Kubrick insisted on directing the Vietnam location scenes in London of all places on the docklands, thinking that ramming a few Palm trees in the ground would make it look like a convincing version of the Tet Offensive. Offensive it certainly was, but convincing it was not!

I think Hamburger Hill is a much better attempt at that kind of movie and apart from the chopper pilots wearing (bullet magnet) white bonedomes on the helicopter assault, Hamburger Hill is pretty convincing.
