I read about the Samsung products, 35-40 Euros. Are they okay?

What software do I need? All-in-one solution preferred, slides, video and musical scores cutting&editing. I am not willing to spend much money, so freeware would be preferred if it does the job. However, low and medium prices (not above 60-80 euros) would eventually be okay, too.

Anything else I need to know? And please, keep it simple, I do not want to become a hardcore pro in this, and I know nothing about this matter. It will never be more than a part-time hobby for me - eventually, if it keeps me hooked.

Fraps seems to be quite expensive for what it does. Opinions? Cheaper alternatives?

Thanks.

1. Pioneer 111 or 112 series. They have outstanding write quality for the price, both single and dual-layer. Absolutely avoid Samsung and LG. I don't know what all is available in Europe. Liteon aren't terrible, but they definitely aren't the best.

2. If you're going for compatbility, that means DVD+R with a DVD-ROM bitsetting, MPEG-2 and either Layer2 or AC3 audio. "All in one solution"? Tmpgenc DVD-Author can do something for you -- it's very basic, but will do various editing, including overlays (text). The AC3 is a purchased addon, and you'll want to activate the "advanced" settings. I have never actually tried using the built-in burning segment of Tmpgenc -- I've always exported and used Nero.

3. Media quality.Speedlab's forums have a list of good media to use. You want to match up media with your burner, because a poor write will cause problems regardless of everything else done correctly.

4. FRAPS? What the heck does FRAPS have to do with making DVD-R's of pictures? FRAPS is for DirectX captures.
