On radio this morning (one of the very rare days in a year when I car to listen to the radio), german politicians were hailing the success of the UN mission in Lebanon, and that a solid chance has been created to tame Hezbollah and that the troops helped to prevent hezbollah regrouping and rearming, and that they actively help to increase Isarael'S security.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Obviously they have not been told that Hezbollah has been doing exactly this, and by many observbes is considered to be stronger now than it was before last year'S war. It already has offered the lebanese army to equipe them with modern and more sophisticated weapons than what the regular Lebanese army has. It's just that they do all this north of the Litani, outside the UN-visited (how else to call it?) territory. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1438090.ece Last year's job was not properly done, by far not, and has not been brought even close to a successful "end". I am sure it is only a question of time before the next clash between the IDF and Hezbollah brakes loose. And this time it will be much tougher and costly a fight for the Israelis. Hearings in the US Senate Armed Service Committee in February and January saw Negroponte and chief of intelligence McConnell telling the committee that Hezbollah not only continues to pose a vital threat to American interests, but that it also must be considered as a high risk to security and stability in the region. Saudi wellfare organisations help to fund their weapon supplies. My impression is that the US is increasingly concerned about Hezbollah and rightly so. I skipped the January report (red a foreign summary only), but flew over the February report this night: http://www.dni.gov/testimonies/20070118_transcript.pdf http://www.dni.gov/testimonies/20070227_transcript.pdf Next war is ahead. With much higher stakes on Israel's side, and a much better armed Hezbollah. and plenty of european blue helmets in the middle, tapping around in the dark. Oh sunny Europe, though make my heart sing and laugh... The Irish are said to drink what they call the water of life (whiskey...) for only one reason - to come over the misery of life in general, and dublin in special, whatever they have against it. Have I ever mentioned that since one and a half year a friend has introiduced me to the flavours and aromes of Irish and Scottish whisk(e)ys? :p I think after this radio show I need one now. Dalwhinnie or Jameson 1780 - what shall it be...:hmm: |
