DF antenna raised or lowered?

Hi,

thanks to Anvart it is possible to have the DF antenna in SHIII raised
and rotating. Unfortunately it is only possible to have it either
raised or lowered, i.e., one has to choose one way or the other.

In most pictures of german submarines (I have seen) the DF antenna is
lowered. Does anyone know in which situations it was originally
raised and for how long? I guess for diving, in stormy weather and
also in dangerous (battle) situations it was mostly lowered, but I
don't know for sure. So, any comments are highly appreciated.
