Default Assigned Grid Square

How smart is BDU in assigning grid squares?

I just drew AN49 again, smack dab in the middle of a line from the UK to Norway. First time was Dec. 39. Now its Jan. 40. Before that I usually get AN84 or so, closer to the channel and Britain and actual shipping. The first AN49 patrol was a snooze fest. 7 Days of checking sonar every hour and hearing nothing but faint pencil scratchings and coughing. It made me nostalgic for depth bombings.

I am heartened that they assign grid squares reachable by a Type IIA. I imagine that they assign me to grid squares that are historically accurate to some degree. Given that the campaign has been modded by GWX, does the SH3 engine also consult the campaign files and send me where shipping is certainly expected?

I know I can change the grid square using SH3 Commander or ignore the grid square with little consequence. But I prefer to follow my orders (even those from SH3 Gen).

I am just trying to understand if I should get my hopes up this time...
