Default GW mine bug in the English channel?

I'm having a problem that is kind of zapping my zeal to play the game.

I've got the latest Grey Wolves mod.

I just got my first mission that requires a run through the channel in early 1940. Problem is, I can't go through the channel without exploding about 1/4 of the way in. I'm guessing this is a mine thing.

What happens is, I run a gauntlet (submerged/quiet running) of about four or five warships, then I notice that one of them shows as sunk. A black, sunken ship icon shows up on the map. Fairly quickly after that happens, my sub explodes as if it hit a mine.

I've run through this four times and the same thing has happened every time, albeit in different parts of the eastern entrance to the channel. Now, I can deal with the idea that there are mines in the game. However, when the game decides that I am destined to hit a mine no matter what, then I get pissed.

I've hit mines in the regular game, and with RUB, but never like this. It makes me just want to turn the mines off completely, if not the entire game.

Also, on my last patrol, I snuck into Scapa Flow and sunk pretty much every ship in there. The warships beached themselves, so they were easy picking. The merchants were put under with the help of the deck gun. I sat on the surface, inside the harbor itself until my batteries were recharged, in full daylight. I even hung around a day or so till the last ship sank. Now, this is the sort of thing that just kinda kills the "realism" thing for me. I know no game is perfect, but . . . couldn't someone program a call to the RAF if say, a German sub raises holy hell on the surface, in an English harbor for a day and a half?

So, basically, is my first problem a bug? Is my second problem, just something I'm going to have to avoid doing based on the IDEA that it is totally unrealistic? I don't mind playing that way. Heck, I realize there needs to be some suspension of reality in every PC game, especially "war" games. I guess I can deal with it, I just thought it was kind of silly.

The mines are making me angry though. Can I turn them off?
