Default WPL Christopher "Hitch" Hitchcock has passed away.

It is with great sadness and regret that I tell you all that a fellow WPL member Christopher "Hitch" Hitchcock has passed away.

368 Christopher Hitchcock Hitch USA 7

Some of you may recall his skill in Model Ship Building and Diorama's.

This diorama depicts the launch of the U.S.S. Monitor on January 30, 1862 at the Continental Iron Works in Green Point, New York. By William E. and Christopher N. Hitchcock for a private collection.

This is Chris at work. He and his father who died 1 day before Christopher built some of the finest ship models in the world. Their work can be seen in many museums including the Smithsonian.

He will be greatly missed as we have spent many a night playing SHIII together and hunting in Wolf pack's.

Good Bye old friend.

On June 22, 1942, observers and shore gunners on Bailey Island reported a submarine on the surface heading east. The Navy sent the destroyer McCalla from Portland. The U-boat submerged, but was hit with a depth charge seven miles east of Halfway Rock. Oil came to the surface, and the next day, bodies of German sailors washed ashore on Small Point.
