Silent Hunter 3 crash to desktop when using navigation map.

Hey, so I have an issue that's been bothering me for a while, Silent Hunter 3 has been crashing occasionally when I use the navigation map, I have the GWX 3.0 Gold mod enabled, and I have patched it with the 4gb exe patch, (prevents the game from crashing during later war years) and I still have this problem, is there a potential fix for this? I love this game, played it for years, it's very frusturating when I've nearly reached a specific area, and the game crashes because of me using the navigation map around, it's so irritating, any tips and tricks and help would be greatly appreciated.
