Does Wolves of Steel still work?

Hi does Wolves of Steel mod still work or has Ubisoft wrecked it? I installed SH5 from disc but got hijacked to Ubisoft site. I made a new install then installed WoS and on starting a new campaign game crashes. I have tried umpteen clean reinstalls, and tried a patch for a new execute file, but to no avail. Am I possibly doing something wrong or am I flogging a dead horse and the mod does not work
