Today ive started what will probably be my final career game before i take a break from SH3 for a little while. This game will probably take me awhile to complete, so i figure by the time im done, i'll REALLY need to take a little break from the game.
Normally i pick nondescript, not famous boats. use the real captains name, use the boat the year it was commissioned, and if possible, use the same tower insigna that the boat orginally used. Orginally for this career i was going to pick the last type IXC ever commissioned. I thought it fitting that the last boat buillt should be my last game before a break. However, instead, after having read "Steel Boats, Iron hearts" once(the memior of a U505 Crewman, Hans' Greubler ) , and rereading some of it again, i thought maybe it more fitting to use Han's "luck old boat" as some sort of tribute to the man who's memior i have read. The only thing im i intend to post in this log are pictures, the patrol log that SH3 commander generates, and a map of the route traveled every patrol. My hope is that through that "old photograph" look in these pictures, that the crew and boat will seem more alive, then just typing in action reports. As an aside, if anyone ever thinks about using Thilo Bode or Peter Zschech, you should know that Hans had few kind words for Bode, and no kind words at all for Zschech. Infact according to Hans, they had some sort of special relationship. However, Lang was an excellent skipper and well respected, but U505's crew looked up to Axel-Olaf Loewe as a father. you'd really have to read his book to understand what the deal is with these men. Unfortunatly i left the book at work so when i created my career i had to rely on uboatwaffle.net 's crew list for the officers. The rest of the crew im not renaming.. just the officers as they're the only ones you really deal directly with anyway. Axel-Olaf Loewe |
