I had probs with vBulletin many years ago and binned it. Since then invision power. bought software outright for $149 (much cheaper then vBulletin) and $50 a year, in two payments, for all upgrades. They also did the database conversions to their software. Upgrades are easy via admin panel. The upgrade appears in your panel, and a button to start the upgrade automatically.
I also note you are on a very old version which I dont think is supported anymore. Current ver is 5.4.
