Rubbish quote about technology... and buggy whips

I heard "Many people mistakenly think a new technology cancels out an old one." quoted about how newspapers would never disappear because of the web on a BBC Radio 4 programme. That has to be the most pathetic grasping at straws I've heard in a long time, but wanting to check its veracity I thought I'd pop outside and ask the Town Crier and the Lamplighters what they think. Couldn't find any, so popped into the old dog-cart to the Mercat cross, but couldn't find that either.

Now, where did I put my buggy-whip?
