Default Ahoy

Thank you for admitting me to your ranks.

I am an actual sailor with a keen interest in navigation and collision avoidance. I'm writing a book on collision avoidance which has required me to do a lot of quite intricate maneuvering board plotting, and which has convinced me that we need a simulator for training of recreational sailors.

I have been lurking on here for a while and am blown away by the sophistication of the simulators you guys work with, and with the deep knowledge of navigation, pilotage, and other technical subjects which many of you have. I am playing with these simulators first of all to learn how they work (thinking about developing a collision avoidance simulator), but as a pleasant side effect -- it's a lot of fun!

I have 30 years and more than 100,000 miles of sea time myself, and sail mostly in the English Channel, North Sea and Baltic in the heaviest ship traffic in the world. If there is anything from practical experience I could help you with, just let me know!
