While its really beyond the scope of DW, I wanted to start a list of real naval bases you can navigate to in DW's world map. To qualify, the location has to be based on real world lat/longs (plus or minus one minute) where you can place a navy base on the map where at least a part of the base is on land and you can get a sub "close enough" to actually dock (ie, a tug would push you to the pier).
The flip side of this list would be locations like Groton, Bangor, or Pearl Harbor where its just impossible. Forgive any spelling errors for now, I'm working off the top of my head and this is a work in progress. ![]() Some quick advise for mission designers: The best way to place these objects is still tricky. DW's mission editor allows for more precision than the lat/lon display shows. Load an area based on the lat/lon and start zooming in. Select the Naval Base or Shipyard object and place it based on the lat/lon. Be sure to type in the heading on the object's first page BEFORE doing the final placement. Use the object's 3D view (last page) to move the object to its proper position. When in doubt, use the 2D map to find the deepest water near the shore line. If the lat/lon is the same as I listed it, the object fits the shore line, and the object is close to water that is 30 feet deep or deeper, you're in the right spot. If a base stays listed it means you can get to it (or at least close enough to swim to it). Use the object's 3D view (last tab) to make any final nudges. Updated to use RA/DW's USNI ref. for nation names. Like I said, I'll update the list over time. If I missed one you know about and its place-able, sing out. ![]() Last edited by ET2SN; 11-07-17 at 02:50 AM. |
