Back before the 1970s oil crisis Nevada was famous for having no speed limits at all. I once heard a story about a guy with a muscle car zooming across the desert at somewhere around 150 mph (or so the story goes). Could be true. But in my limited experience police understand how dangerous high speed driving is on public roads as they are often the first on the scene when someone hits a bug at warp 2.

Maybe we need more race tracks that are properly maintained and controlled where people can have their fun in a safe and controlled environment.
