Does fog exist in SH3? How broken is the weather code?

Absolutely *loving* this game with GW and the latest fixes / enhancements. However, I'm yet to see the moon

and I've been through a 24-hour thunder and lightening storm and not even seen a cloud in the sky.

I'm aware that there are still some weather 'issues' that the devs never had time to fix, but am I missing out on a mod or a tweak that would at least give me some variation other than rain or clear day?
