Default Chess not haram

The influential high-ranking Saudi Grand-Mufti Abdulaziz Al al-Sheikh released a Fatwa banning chess and declaring it as forbidden to play it, since it would distract players from their prayings, and would teach rivalry, competition, and builds hate and hostility.

The mad Grufti, I mean the Grand-Mufti, is a madman of the Sunni school of madness. It is one of the occasions when the Sunni madmen get accompanied by their Shia pendants as well, since the Shia Grand-Ajatollah Ali al-Sistani, also a man of great influence, has declared chess to be banned in a fatwah of his own, too.

I summarise it in plain English. Chess teaches discipline, patience, logic, precise thinking and exact calculation. Skills like this are the less wanted the more obscure and pedantic and fundamental a religious system is - since it cannot hold its ground together in the light of such intellectual qualities. THAT is the real reason behind this.

They are holding a chess tournament in Mekka, or planned to do so. Lets see if the Saudi religion-police brings it to a halt or not.

Back to prayer lessons.
