Das boot method worked!

So I'm in BF 15 and come across a westbound convoy at 0023 hours in '39. I make a surface attack and speed ahead of the convoy before impact. After impact I hit a tanker and a med cargo. The cargo is on fire. The escorts go to where my firing position was(fools)! I'm out of torts save the last stern one. I decide to charge in. I'm shooting my DG, and grab the attention of the escorts, but they are so far away they do not get close. I pass the med cargo and Fire the last stern torpedo while firing upon the tanker. Success. I crash dive and wait out a 6 hour depth charging.

Here is my question. Are the British ships impervious to their own gun Fire? As I was in the middle of the convoy, I can hear shells flying overhead. I do no think the destroyers even hit any outer perimeter ships at all!
