wonderful work wolves of steel

I am blown away by the work done on wolves of steel the question I have is, can you have the eye candy of WOS but not the hard core realism. I like the look but find it very difficult to plot courses when I dont know where my boat is because it doesnt show it in the map. the other question is i see there are quite a few downloads,does someone have a list in what order they should be downloaded for the best play? Again this is a awesome site and I'm glad it is here.
