I'm not able to check for sure what RFB 2.0 changed with its Campaign Mission files (I'm not at home to look at RFB 2.0), but the issue I've found with ships not being heard when manually using the Hydrophones is that anytime a ship goes below half its rated Maximum speed (found in its .sim file), you won't hear it at all. Your Sonar/Hydrophone man will hear it and report the ships bearing.....but you won't hear a thing, no matter how close to the target. If the ship's speed is half or above its rated Maximum speed, you'll hear it just fine.
The stock game pretty much has all ships traveling over half their Maximum speed rating, most ships don't have an issue. As a rule, the stock game has the lowest speed a freighter uses as 9 kts, this speed exceeds the "half of maximum" figure....so, you'll hear it. But, if RFB got to fooling around with changing ship speeds between Waypoints....you won't hear it with the Hydrophone being used by you. As a side note, RSRDC (all versions) changed many of the ships Way point speeds (just for "spicing up" the action). Some ship speeds between way points (RSRDC added multiple times the number of way points over the stock game on a given route) drop down to 3 or 4 knots just for the fun of it (some lower yet). It was also done during RSRDC's "Battle" scenarios to make the ship(s) follow the authentic time line of actual events. For instance, some ships have their speeds drop to wait on the proper time/place to launch an attack. The trouble is, you'll not hear them at all when their speed has dropped between way points during those times. If RFB did the same thing......I doubt even this mod will help!
