Default GM to close car making operations in Australia

http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2013-1...losure/5151266

For the nin Aussies Holden=GM down under. I'm a bit torn over this. GMH wanted several hundred million in government handouts to stay in operation which the government refused to provide. So now we're going to spend several million in "assistance" to help workers find other work.

I'm not a fan of government propping up unprofitable big business but I'm also not a fan of losing smaller manufacturing businesses that are profitable. Maybe they are only profitable when the big boys are getting subsidies?

I feel for the workers who now face difficult decisions and the government just wants them to go away and dig holes to sell to China.

I suspect that we may be hitting the bottom a few years after the rest of the world. We were spared recession in 2008 - 09 but only because China printed a shed load of money and bought our holes.
