Default Fakeout at Saipan

I was out on patrol in mid 44 in USS Balao, standard game. Early in the patrol I get the radio messages about the Marines landing on Saipan and then about the island being secured. After refitting several times at that base whose name escapes me south east of the Celebes Sea and having used up my current load of torpedoes I turned east and started to head home. While I initially plotted a course to Midway for refueling I noticed that Saipan now had a base icon on it so I decided to head there to refuel first.

Arriving at night in bad weather I headed into port, trying to actually get to a dock rather than be lazy and just refit while still out at sea. As I get close and the water got shallower the first ship I made visual contact with was a Akizuki class destroyer, who proceeded to pound the **** out of me. Despite the fact that I could keep pressing 'refit' and repairing my damage she still sunk me.

Since its clearly a bug that Japanese forces would be at that location at that time of the war I did not feel guilty reloading my last saved game and proceeding directly to midway (at a slower speed since I would not be stopping for fuel along the way).

End of rant, carry on.
