The Vigilante was the fastest plane to take off and land on aircraft carriers ... I think she did 2.2 mach without the electronics pod they called a canoe.

Sadly she was the most shot down Navy plane of the Vietnam war with 23 lost to combat. She was no longer needed for delivering a nuclear weapon after the polaris boats came into service.
