Status report?

I am on the 15th day of my latest mission in the North Sea and have sunk 2 Coastal Freighters, 1 Coastal Tanker, and 1 Whale Factory Ship for a total of 16996 tons. The only time I have been able to send a status report was about 4 hours after I left Wilhelmshaven at the beginning of this mission and that was with 14 torpedoes left and full of fuel. What do I have to do to send a status report?
