New Career

Hi Guys.

I thought I would share this with you. It's mainly for those who have either come back to SH3 after a fair few years away (like myself) or those who are new to the game (read: 'way of life' lol) and are perhaps trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm still in awe with all the Kauleins who can play at 100% and still manage to sink their targets so I still think I'm not very good (I'm at 79%), but I'm sure I'll get there.

Anyway...

After installing SH3 with GWX3 & SHCommander, and then spending weeks if not a few months installing mods that I like via JSGME for that immersion feel, I started a new career: 1 Aug 1939 in the 7th Flotilla based in Konigsberg as Leutnant Bubble Blower. The name was my wife's idea. Incidentally I have made her my 2IC with the help of SHCommander Crew Options. I think it gives me a few brownie points for permission to play the game I'm in the process of putting family, friends and work colleagues onto my U Boat over time.

First couple of patrols in the bay in a Mk VIIB had me carrying out orders to sink the target ships and two-ship convoy (easy when the targets are stationary and not firing back at you). Mind you I should have looked these orders up on the forum as I lost renown points due to the 'targets' being neutral. I have since changed the cfg numbering so that I get renown for reaching a grid, carrying out orders and I'm safe if I sink a neutral...mistakes happen in war.

Before starting the career I changed the time in-between patrols to one day via SHC, but now I have a little more understanding on how to sink ships I gave myself a well earned two-week leave pass before transferring after the 4th August to 1st Flotilla based in Kiel.

Next patrol requested by myself (SHC again) and accepted was grid AO98 in preparation for the start of the war on 1st Sept. Either my spies or crystal balls to tell the future were dead on because Germany and Poland are at war as from midnight. I get a Morse code message that hostilities are to begin from 0445. Just as well I am at periscope depth in Helo harbour with two destroyers at anchor in my sights. At the allotted time I fire my torpedoes and sink the destroyers as well as a stationary freighter before slinking away. Not a shot was fired at me. My log book is filling up nicely.

I'm starting to really enjoy this game after much frustration, but I have a long way to go before I'd declare myself as any good.

Thanks for reading but even more thanks to all those who put their time and effort in creating the mods I am enjoying.
