Manuel Torpedo shot while in auto-targeting

I had a bit of a dilemma arise whist in heavy fog. I had to get really really close to the merchant ship to obtain a lock, I use auto-aim. This never happened. So here I am some 500 yrds to the ship and still can't get my lock. I can see the ship but can't see the flag (at least the game couldn't) so, I wanted to do a straight on bow shot slightly ahead of the merchant. I remember doing this before...and hitting it.
So, since I didn't have auto-lock, I fired my best straight shot estimate and it would have been good had the torpedo not made a left turn to head back to Manila.

I needed to reset the TDC to 0 or "to Run Straight".
How is this done quickly??
