Models are cool. You could say the same thing about RC planes. It's neat to build something that works. On the other hand the models will never make you feel like you're inside the sub, and you can't have a career sinking ships, and the way the torpedoes work in the game is more realistic, having to do the calculations and wait for them to reach the target.

Bottom line? They both have their good points and the their bad.

Models.
Good: They're real. They move. You're doing it in real water.
Bad: They're sophisticated toys. You can't recreate actual warfare with them.

Games.
Good: A good one is a simulator. You can be inside the sub. You can plot an attack against a convoy. You can sweat waiting for the depth charges. You can recreate history.
Bad: You can't touch them. You can't watch them actually move through the water.

It comes down to what floats your boat.
