Starting Ports

I'm near the end of TMO and looking forward to DL'ing the latest version 2.5 plus RSRD. What ports do you like to start from? Convoy hunting is fun but I would like to go up against some larger ships, BB, carriers. I read some other posts about large navel battles. Will the game point you to some of them or do you just have to know the correct date and show up there? I guess that's why I want to know which ports you guys prefer to sail out of.
