How to modify keyboard shortcuts?

I need to travel extensively for the next couple of months but do not want to give up playing SH4. Therefore I need to modify some keyboard shortcuts for my laptop without numeric keypad.
At home the laptop has a nice big monitor and a keyboard plugged but of course not when I am traveling.
Can somebody help me to create a "mini-mod" which changes the keyboard shortcut layout? I need some keys which are only available from the numeric pad changed to a keyboard without numeric keypad.
