July 1943 and just sank three merchants on the bottom right convoy and about to attack the upper left convoy, I was spoiled for choice in this target enriched position and decide on bold full speed surface attack.

With a slight fog on the horizon I was able to get well within range before firing a salvo of steam torps from about 6000 meters and still remain under cover in the fog. Hard to port and raced away in opposite direction at 20 knots before the the torps ravaged the convoy sinking another three ships.

Destroyers from both convoys came looking for me (a first), but a uboat can really turn a speed on the surface and they never came near finding me. A total of six ships sunk from two convoys, Aspach Weinbrandt all round in the Officers mess and heading for home.

The little blue window made this attack to easy, but the nerve ends still tingle when racing in at 20 knotts, battery was still charging on my VIIC/41.
