Hallo to all veteran U-Boot commanders of this forum!
I have an interesting sea story to tell. It was my second patrol from Brest. I’ve cleared the docks and was heading for the ocean. I opened up my map to chart my course to my patrol grid CG32. I was quite shocked to see where BdU was sending me. The CG32 is a landlocked grit on Spain you see. I was not scheduled for R&R yet. So there was really no reason why I was send there. I just couldn’t find a reasonable way to reach my patrol grid. Thus I decided to move to the approaches of Gibraltar. It was good decision as this patrol turned out a good one. I was not court marshaled and shot when I returned to my base. But I still do wonder why did the BdU send to a landlocked grid and if any other U-Boot commander experienced surprises as well |
