Default IFF? Radar Ctrl key and advice on raiding Tokyo

All hands report to the bridge..

Fellas, I'm currently on the outskirts of Tokyo bay, pending entrance to port Tokyo. I will ask you to try holding down the Ctrl key while looking at the PPI radar (not the heart beat radar), and you'll note a smiley comes up.

This happened on my current position and I'm scared it could be either:

1- a neutral unit, but unlikely since men ID it as warship, or,
2- Smiley means he still hasnt detected me,
3- or???

Any ideas?

And is this the SJ-I IFF (Identify Friend or Foe) feature?

The second part of this post, is me asking for your advice on raiding Tokyo port.

In calculating path to within, I count 88 Km to 11 Km from hardpoints on port. Any advice on speed, depths, and courses. I plotted marks on my selection of waypoints, sticking to depths and avoiding contact. Problem is, battery lasts 37 Km, which means I have to surface and recharge in 51 Km to destination, risking shore batteries plummeting me and putting holes to my boat. I will go at TC = 1 (normal TC) all the way to start point, and I happen to have about 14 electric eels and 2 Mark 14s fore reserves, 8 Mark 14s aft. I will use the electric on warships such as DDs as a last resort but will stick to being silent and slow. Once I dive I'll engage SR and stay that way till I get out.

Still, any of you who made it in and most importantly, out, could help me with this.

Thanks
