I save frequently, I usually end up with 12 saves or so per patrol, just in case of CTD's. Most times after a major combat. I play DiD, but CTD's and force majeurs don't count as dead! Ended up replaying an encounter like 5 times once to get the results of the first time! I CTD'd just after on the first one, luckily the previous save was about 2 hours (game time) before the encounter, so It's wasnt a major issue recreating it.
