Diesel shortage...

I've been trying a career in a IXC a few times now but find I'm not given nearly enough fuel to get to my patrol area and back

I have the MAN engine upgrade, full effiency in the engines, made sure the battery is not in recharge mode and the fuel tank is in working order. This gives me ~20,000km at the slowest speed, but I keep getting sent to NY and near Tampa, which are both about a 20,000km return trip

I have to draw the shortest course possible, go at slow speed, and avoid going fast to chase contacts.
What do the rest of you IX commanders do??
