I've hit on a useful recent strategy - early war - which it to leave one forward tube empty.

The reason:

TII's (electric 3km range) are optimal for daylight convoy attacks, whereas TI's are optimal for night-time - and from further out.

You never know under what conditions you'll meet a convoy, and so by leaving the forward loadout as 2 x T2's and 1 x T1, you can load the 4th tube when it becomes apparant which of the two types best suit you projected attack. leaving with you at least 2 if not 3 suitable fish loaded.

Similarly, don't reload forward tubes (ie autoload off) until your high speed section as you re-overtake the convoy - where you will now be able to project a likely engaement time - and lighting conditions - and load all 4 accordingly!

Another useful side-effect of this is that you can fire your two T2's first, followed by the T1 (set to fast) and with a little luck they'll arrive near simultaeneously!
