First patrol went off fantastically!
1939, first patrol of the war, I was sent to AM24. After getting there and putzing around for 24 hours like my orders specified, I set course for the northern edge of Ireland and set up a search pattern between Loch Ewe and Wales. 24 hours later I had sent 3 C2's and numerous coastal merchants to Davy Jones' locker, dodged 4 aerial attacks and 3 DDs responding to distress calls. Satisfied with my work, and loaded with only 2 more torpedoes, I steamed home. Total tonnage for my first patrol was somewhere around 20K. AWESOME... I know I won't be able to be that audacious later in the campaign, but the first day sure was productive. ![]()
