Use of TC

How do you use TC? I've found myself now only using it for the major journey To and from base and to my patrol zone. As of late I no longer use TC once contact has been made.. it does get lengthy.. and sucks my day.

However it seems when I use TC to spur along the events of the hunt a destroyer or some such gets dropped into my lap... nearly everytime due to very lazy lookouts I'm guessing. Of course there is no right or wrong way to play the game I was just curious how others used the TC in game.
