1) Why not 44-45? In my opinion, lack of recent years is a good choice because uboats were in a deep defensive. SH5 has a particularly good mechanism of attack on the surface, and the later years of the war only possible attack from a far distance with periscope depth. 2) Weak AI In SH5 now is extremely weak AI - I hope that after the 1.2 patch improved AI will be a major problem in 42/43 years even at medium difficulty. 3) Convoys Autor of "Iron coffins" reported that find convoys in 1944 was almost impossible (change route, many escort ships detected uboat most early) 4) Other uboats Type IX have these same orders like resupplied VII (hmmm, do you mean pacific missions?) Type XXI, in fact, did not participate in the war (and many people forget that this 'electric' uboat should be recharged. Recharging on the surface when was total domination of the Allies in the air, equipped with long-range radars with high precision at night? Summary: Interesting game only as as shooter (low difficulty level, infinite fuel and ammo). Please don't criticise my point of view - I'm 100% real multiplayer game fan and this is only my private opinion... 80% of all my multiplayer games was played on type VII in years 1940-43...
