Default reason for missions?

This is just a debate really, or maybe i don't understand the point of the missions....

im on 48,000 tons on 2nd year. mission has sent me on east coast of japan (forget the harbor, i've had a few scrumpies) to take some snap shots of the harbor. i've just popped in and sank a few old split freighters to a harbor thats close (its on the same coast line, on its west coast) take my total to the above and have started to make my way to the harbor.

It's locked down. and i mean HARD. water is shallow so thermal layers are not an option so i'm pretty certain some nice stuff to kill is there but im thinking - why? i'm near some VERY nice shipping lanes (x1 passenger liner dead, x1 seen but in wrong direction). so im thinking ill just about face and get the hell outta dodge.

is there any benefit to running missions? more points, more medals?

and on a different note, how does it work in sh5? i've read the reviews and bought sh4 when people were crying how sh!t it was but i gotta say, l loved sh3 and sh4, now (admittedly modded) is great.....

anyways, for the time being i will reload. daveys locker again... i think i may have to head out to deep anyway

fyi, running tmu for 1.4 (no uboot exetension) manual targetting.

cheers for the help. hope i dont get flamed :P
