Req; Quick fix guide

I was all set to buy SH5, but as it's such a buggy mess of a game, thought I'd try no.4 Gold edition which includes the expansion.
Once all patched with the official updates, which mods would you recommend to make it look great and fix any remaining bugs?

I'm a noob so would a mod that drastically changes things such as interface and gameplay make the game harder to learn?
